All the slabs on the hot tub

Not sure what this is on the left, I found it in the $1 pile and thought it might be worth cutting, on the right is some Davis Creek obsidian

Wyoming dendritic jasper

Graveyard point agate, kind of plain

Willow Creek jasper

Mystery Mountain

Denny contacted me and said he is having problems logging in and he wanted to make sure that everyone who has been sending him stuff gets a proper Thanks.
He is undergoing treatment for his lung cancer and doesn't have much energy, hopes he can make it back eventually.

So to everyone who has sent him stuff he says

ROCK AND GEM HUNTING / Friday the 13th slab bucket
« on: December 13, 2013, 10:37:46 AM »
Cleaned up the slabs in the bucket today. I have to keep the bucket in the house now or it will freeze up so it is more visible and not as prone to being cleaned only when stuff starts falling out of it.

The group shot

Burro Creek Pastelite

Graveyard Point plume

Graveyard backlit

I also cut some Juniper Ridge Fire Opal slices that are not in the group shot because I don't wash the oil off of them, I just pat them down and put them by the fireplace and they soak the oil up and cure themselves. Here are a few shots of a few of the slabs I got cut yesterday. This is some cool stuff, these are all shot outside in the morning with the sun as a back light (not directly, that was too bright)

Thanks for looking............Tony

ROCK AND GEM HUNTING / Baby bucket 12-8-13
« on: December 08, 2013, 04:33:38 PM »
I washed up some slabs tonight, can't throw them in a slab bucket cause the water freezes so I am just keeping them in an empty bucket and bringing them in to wash them more frequently.

I love these graveyard point plumes, or maybe they are more trees than plumes cause they are huge!

This is the end cut, more of these to come.

Burro Creek Pastelite

Clear Quartz caps

Davis Creek Rainbow obsidian, I should have wet these down as you really can't see anything dry.

Thanks for looking..................Tony

LAPIDARY ARTS / Slab bucket Dec 4, 2013
« on: December 03, 2013, 08:52:13 PM »
Cleaned up a slab bucket today, it had lots of rainbow obsidian in it and now I have lots of tiny cuts on my fingers. Some really good Mookaite and some big slabs from some Carey tube agate.

The whole batch

I am cutting this Mookaite as a special order for some Burgundy material for a wedding, this is some really pretty stuff.

Mystery Mountain, this piece has a ton of drusy pockets, kind of cool

Davis Creek rainbow obsidian blanks for flint nappers

I don't know what this is, it came in one of my recent estates and I just wanted to take it home and see what was in it. It looks bad dry so I wet one slab down so you can see the color

I got a pile of Carey tube agate from a friend of mine and this is the first rock I cut up out of it.

Another slab backlit

I cut some Basenite slabs too but I guess I didn't get a picture of them, doesn't really matter as they are pretty plain.
Thanks for looking.................Tony

ROCK AND GEM HUNTING / Some rock I picked up this weekend
« on: November 25, 2013, 09:40:55 AM »
I got a call from a lady who has been moving her rocks around and her husband told her he was not moving them anymore so she asked me to come over and make her an offer on taking them all.
Most are yard rock material but some are really cool?
Lots of petrified wood, lots of Calcite (she used to work in a mine in Utah), and a whole mixture of other stuff.
Here are a few pics

Somewhere in the bottom is a a 400-500 lb calcite crystal we had a heck of a time getting it in there.

On the way home I stopped and looked at another estate I had heard about and ended up filling up the back seat with boxes of small rocks and slabs

Now I have to sort and put all the stuff away.
Anyone need some rock?

Have a great day............Tony

Cleaned up another slab bucket tonight, I had to bring the bucket in and set it next to the stove so I could get the rocks out of the ice cube! Took all day for it to thaw out.

The whole bucket of slabs and end cuts

Hells Gate pet wood sphere preforms

Hells gate pet wood slabs

Black Feather plume

Amethyst Sage

Lucin Variscite

A weird Graveyard point plume with some sagenitic stuff in it

Cripple Creek Jasper

A pile of end cuts

I picked up a 30 lb chunk of Carey Tube agate tonight, had to put it right into the saw. Here is the end cut off of it, more slabs to come later.

ROCK AND GEM HUNTING / Morrisonite butt cut
« on: November 17, 2013, 05:46:10 PM »
I found a kind of junky piece of Morrisonite in one of my piles a few weeks ago so I brought it home to cut and see what was in it. The slabs are ok but the butt cut is super cool, looks like a cartoon character. I didn't get time today to clean up the slabs and do a slab bucket post but I just had to share this little gem.

I love it when I find cool things like this in a rock.
Thanks for looking.............Tony

LAPIDARY ARTS / Succor Creek thunderegg and some Junipe ridge fire opal
« on: November 16, 2013, 08:26:40 PM »
I have been putting off fixing my 30" saw for a long time and this week I finally cleaned out around the saw area and redid the motor mount, rewired the whole saw, fixed the shutoff switch and tweaked the clutch system so it would finally work.
My first full cut is a Succor Creek thunder egg that a friend of mine collected a couple years ago and I told her I would cut it for her, it was collected from the blue opal bed that the Owyhee club used to own (a member of the club has since taken it over) so we were hoping for a nice big blue opal egg on the inside.
Turns out it does have some blue opal in it, but it is mostly a mud ball. 16 hours to cut through, oh well can't win em all.

I also cut up a chunk of Juniper Ridge fire opal that we dug a couple of months ago, this is some cool stuff! (I did list some of these on my website today.)

I also cut up a chunk of Morrisonite but I didn't get any pictures taken today, may be tomorrow, it turned out super cool!
I will try to get pictures of the rest of the stuff I have cut this week tomorrow.

Thanks for looking....................Tony

LAPIDARY ARTS / My long neglected slab bucket
« on: November 08, 2013, 06:58:06 AM »
It has been months since I have cleaned out my slabs, got a few going on here.

Pet wood

Opal Butte thundereggs

Amethyst Sage

Mystery Mountain, this stuff is fantastic back lit

Polka Dot agate

Leopard skin?

Unknown for sure but I am leaning towards Coprolite

A large thunderegg with lots of moss in it

Not sure what this is, found it in the dollar pile when I was filling some boxes

And lots and lots of Davis Creek rainbow obsidian

Kind of a fun selection of stuff.
Thanks for looking..............Tony
