ROCK AND GEM HUNTING / Re: Info Burro Creek, AZ
« on: August 27, 2018, 09:36:41 PM »
Thanks for the information, So the longer route is better to get to the campground , the quad does add some weight to the back of the truck, the truck will have some new off road tire on it if that makes a difference.  Its a girls rockhounding trip so we want to be safe for sure and not get stuck. Is there cell phone service?  If we can make it to the campground we will use the quad to rockhound the area.

???  Looking for any tips on road conditions and tips, hot spots for the Rodeo Flats area outside of Camp Verde in Arizona, heard there is some awesome agate out there. When the rattlesnakes are all asleep in their dens I will be ready to go hunting, I live in Cottonwood not to far from Camp Verde plan on taking the quad in the back of my pick up for the day. Any info would help Thanks! Linda

Found some nice horned Coral on our camping, rockhound trip to the Payson AZ area off the control road.  Found lots of nodules, most are filled full of little crystals, the locals call them brains, we picked up dozens of them. They were scattered everywhere. The sizes range from pea size up to softball size and bigger. Colors ranged in white, grey, brown and black.  The surronding area of Pine and Payson is full of fossils.  Gem trails of Arizona and Rockhounding Arizona was my go to info, I didn't find much on the internet about the area but once we got there we had no problem finding treasures, and the cool pines were a plus to get a break from the heat of summer. Oh yeah having an ATV helped in carring us and the load of rocks.  Happy Hunting Linda

Are you talking about Arizona, Fire agate hot spot Saddle Mountain right outside Tonopah.  I plan on taking a trip there in the winter, its a little too hot this time a year. Thants about all I know, some you tube videos that might be helpful, keyword "fire agate".  Good Finds Linda

Planning a 3 day trip to burro creek in Oct. or Nov.   Info Gem Trails of AZ book.  Any more information on this area, road, etc. and best time to visit the area.  I have stayed at the camp ground by the bridge and found apache tears many years ago.  Driving a 2 wheel drive truck with a loaded quad in the back, is the road suitable for this?  We just returned from camping outside of Payson, came back with some agate, nodules, and horned coral.  Had a blast!    Thanks Linda
