It's Raining. It's coming your way Sal. It's about time. This sure has been one hell of a summer. We went south past Shasta Lake a while back and it was the lowest we have ever seen it. We were going to go to the coast this weekend. I don't think so now. Just stay home and cut rock.  ::)

OFF THE TOPIC / Fires again
« on: September 16, 2014, 02:25:02 PM »
Well, I thought we would make it through the summer without dealing with any fires. Wrong. Weed is exploding and we have a big one just down the road from us. Ten miles doesn't seem like the fire would be a danger to us. The way the wind, heat and lack of rain have been.  Ten miles away isn't far enough. I guess the fires do clear the  ground so a person can see more rocks.  ::)

LAPIDARY ARTS / Blue Opal
« on: June 04, 2014, 02:31:59 PM »
I've been trying different methods of getting the off white matrix off of the blue opal. Nothing has been working. As a last resort I got a nail set and a leather mallet and tried it. Guess what, it works. So, if you take it easy and just chip away at it, before ya know it, it's almost clean. Then a dental pick. As all of you that got some, it's brittle as a get out. I didn't break any on the piece I was working on. Good luck.

ROCK AND GEM HUNTING / Hard Rock mining

Went out today and worked all day at our Rhodonite claim. A big 3.5 ft. dia. fir had gotten blown over this winter. It was a big chore today. Did drill about 10 holes for blasting.  Got charges ready to blow and thanks to cheap Chinese fuse, we were unsuccessful. The damn fuse would go out when it burned down to the mud. It really wasn't mud just good and damp dirt. I have some good fuse, so back again tomorrow for blasting. Love that smell. Ain't nottin like a good snort of burning black powder.

Ok, I know we have lots of dog owners here so let's see them. I'll get it started. This is Sherman when he was just a little cone head.

Here he is now at just under 2.
