Rock slab Fireplace Hearth finally compleated
« on: September 29, 2017, 11:52:53 AM »
So Terry and I finally finished the rock slab fireplace hearth that we have been working on.  First Terry and I picked out the potential slabs that we wanted displayed.  Then Terry positioned them on a cement backer board cut to the shape of our hearth.  I then glued them to the cement backer board using liquid nail adhesive.  I then polished the slabs using my wet diamond grinder using grits 50,200,400,800,1,500,3,000 and 10,000.  When this was completed it was too late in the year to go any further for we were using the fireplace insert.  This summer during vacation which we used to complete projects we grouted the slabs and then placed the hearth in it's place.  At this time we used a product called Super Gaze which is a self leveling really thick clear coat to put the finishing touches on the hearth.  Below are a few pictures of the completed heath.  I think it turned out beautiful.

Great job, Mark.   I like it.  If it were mine I'd even love it. LOL.

We love it.  Terry just told me that it sure looks better than the Vapor barrier that we looked at all last winter.  Markphoto3
